“Final Destination” is an American horror franchise about people who escape a catastrophe thanks to a premonition: afterward Death takes them one by one through a chain of “coincidences.” The series was based on a script by Jeffrey Reddick, written for the TV series “The X-Files.” As of October 17, 2026, six films have been released: from “Final Destination” (2000) to “Final Destination Bloodlines” (2025). Below you’ll find their order by release and by plot chronology, as well as a short spoiler-free note on each film. The data comes from Wikipedia pages checked on October 17, 2026.
Warning. The films in the series show scenes of violent deaths. We don’t list age ratings: they vary by country and service, so check them on the film’s page.
How the films are built
All the films follow a similar scheme. The hero has a premonition of a catastrophe, saves himself and several others, and then it turns out that Death does not forget those who have “cheated” her. She kills them in a series of elaborate accidents that resemble a chain reaction. According to Ukrainian Wikipedia, the main theme of the series is fatalism and the impossibility of defeating death. English Wikipedia adds that the series was praised for its original idea, in which the villain is Death itself, and for the ingenuity of its death scenes.

| 1 | Final Destination 5 | prequel to the first film |
| 2 | Final Destination | the first film in the series |
| 3 | Final Destination 2 | the action takes place a year after the first |
| 4 | Final Destination 3 | the action takes place six years after the first |
| 5 | The Final Destination | a standalone sequel to the third |
| 6 | Final Destination Bloodlines | part of the events are moved to the past, the rest take place in our time |
