In short

  • Voice-over comes in different forms: dubbing, voice-over and subtitles
  • Languages are not available for every film; they are shown on the title's page and in the player
  • Set the profile language once, then switch the audio during viewing

What you will need

  • An account with a streaming service
  • The device you watch on: TV, phone or computer
  • A few minutes to set the profile language once

Ukrainian voice-over can be found, but you need to know where to look. Languages are not available for every film, and different services mark them differently in their catalogs. Below are six steps to help you find what you need quickly. Information about settings is taken from the Netflix help center and from service pages checked on October 14, 2026, so all mentions of available languages and sections are given as of October 2026.

Decide what you actually need

In everyday speech, the word “voice-over” can mean several different things:

FormatWhat it is
DubbingThe original language is completely replaced with another, so the film can be shown in a country where that language is spoken. This is how Ukrainian Wikipedia describes dubbing
Voice-overThe voice of one or several actors is heard over the original soundtrack. Wikipedia mentions it as common where dubbing is rare
SubtitlesText at the bottom of the screen: the original language stays, and you read the translation

Decide what is acceptable to you, because that determines how you search. If you only want dubbing, a voice-over will not satisfy you.

Set your languages in the profile

On Netflix this is done once. The help page explains that in the settings you can change the language for on-screen text, audio and subtitles. On the web, open the account page, choose Profiles, then the profile you want, and then Languages. Section names in your interface may be translated slightly differently. On the Netflix page for Ukraine, the language switcher offers Ukrainian, English and Russian; this switcher applies to the website.

For other services, look for a profile language setting or a player setting. Set the interface language the same way, but remember that the interface language does not guarantee that every film will have a Ukrainian audio track.

Check languages on the film’s page and in the player

Netflix’s help says you can choose audio and subtitle languages for many series and films, which means not all of them. While watching, do it like this:

  1. On a phone, tablet or computer, tap or click anywhere on the screen. On a TV remote, press the down or up arrow. On Apple TV, swipe up or press the up arrow.
  2. At the top or bottom of the screen, select Audio & Subtitles. On some TVs this item may appear at the bottom without an icon.
  3. If the language you need is not in the list, select Other to see all the available languages.

The help adds that when you open the choice, you see all the languages available for that specific title. If Ukrainian is not there, it is not available for that film.

Use the Ukrainian sections of the catalog

Some services have sections separated by language. On the Ukrainian version of the Megogo site, the menu has the categories “Films in Ukrainian” (in the “Films” section), “Ukrainian Series” (in the “Series” section) and “In Ukrainian” (in the “Cartoons” section). In each service’s filters, also check the language: Megogo has general “Filters,” but we did not find a separate language filter on the page we checked. The HBO Max page for Ukraine is in English, so for each title check the languages in the description.

Don’t confuse the interface language with the audio language. If a service opens in Ukrainian, that does not mean every film has a Ukrainian voice-over. Audio and subtitle languages are available for each title separately.

If the settings “reset”

Netflix describes several cases. Subtitles are not saved for most children’s titles when you watch from an adult profile; they can be saved from a children’s profile. And if the audio language keeps resetting, the help advises playing any content rated “Teen” or higher for 2–3 minutes so that the language is remembered. The help center also has a separate article: “Why subtitles or an audio track in a particular language are unavailable.”

If there is no voice-over

There are three options. Turn on Ukrainian subtitles if they are in the list of languages. Choose another film in the sections that offer Ukrainian. Or check another service: we described the services that work in Ukraine in a separate article. Before paying for a new service, look at our tips on saving on subscriptions.

Why it differs from country to country

It is not surprising that a voice-over may be missing. Ukrainian Wikipedia notes that in some countries mainly children’s films are dubbed while the rest are shown with subtitles, whereas in others dubbing and subtitles are used about equally often. So international catalogs may have less Ukrainian audio than you would like, and this depends on the specific title rather than on your settings.

Checklist before subscribing

  1. Open the page of the film you are interested in and review the list of audio and subtitle languages.
  2. Check whether the catalog menu has sections with the Ukrainian language.
  3. Find out how to cancel the subscription before you pay: some help pages explain this in detail, for example Netflix’s. We wrote about this in our article on saving on subscriptions.
  4. If a series matters to you, first watch a few minutes of the first episode and check the sound.

How to check the result. Start any film, pause it and open “Audio & Subtitles.” If “Ukrainian” is in the list, switch to it and play a few minutes: that way you will see whether the voice-over is really there.

Frequently asked questions

How is dubbing different from voice-over?

According to Ukrainian Wikipedia, dubbing completely replaces the original language with another, while a voice-over is the voice of one or more actors laid over the original. For the viewer, the difference is whether the original voices can still be heard.

Can I change the language during viewing?

Yes. On Netflix, tap the screen or press the arrow on the remote, select “Audio & Subtitles” and choose a language. The choice is saved, but in some cases (for example, for children’s titles) the settings may not be saved.

Why is a Ukrainian voice-over available for some films and not for others?

Languages are not available for every title: the service itself says the choice depends on the film. So look at the list of languages on the page of the specific film.

Where can I find Ukrainian films?

Besides the sections in the catalogs, there are services dedicated to Ukrainian cinema: Takflix describes itself as an online cinema of Ukrainian films, and Megogo has the categories “Films in Ukrainian” and “Ukrainian Series.” Check the access terms on their websites.

Should I search by the Ukrainian or the original title?

Try both. Catalogs may show the title in Ukrainian, in the original, or in both, and search results depend on how the service recorded the title. If you found the film under its original title, check the languages on the film’s page.
