A miniseries is one story with a known number of episodes and a real ending. It isn’t stretched into new seasons “just in case,” so you can start on a Friday evening and finish on Sunday with the feeling that the story is complete. Here we’ve gathered seven projects that have already aired. All facts come from Wikipedia pages checked on October 14, 2026, and the running times in hours are our own calculations based on the episode length ranges listed on those pages.

The series are arranged from shortest to longest, so you can quickly estimate how much free time you have.

How to plan a weekend

For a single evening, Adolescence is enough. For Saturday, Chernobyl or The Queen’s Gambit will do. If you want to stretch the viewing over two days, take Mare of Easttown, Sharp Objects or Maid. It’s best to leave Band of Brothers for a long weekend.

About heavy themes. Adolescence deals with murder and school; The Queen’s Gambit and Sharp Objects feature heroines with addictions or mental health problems; in Maid the heroine escapes an abusive relationship; and Chernobyl depicts a real disaster. If a heavy theme isn’t right for you now, choose another series from the list.

Frequently asked questions

How is a miniseries different from a regular series?

A miniseries is designed as one story with a beginning and an end, while a regular series usually develops season by season. A miniseries has fewer episodes, and its events are not stretched out “for the future.”

Do I need to read the book to understand the series?

No. The Queen’s Gambit, Sharp Objects, Maid and Band of Brothers are based on books, but they tell their stories from beginning to end on their own. You can read the books after watching if the series appeals to you.

Can I stretch the viewing over a week?

Yes, miniseries handle that well. One caveat: in detective stories it’s easier to watch the episodes closer together so you don’t lose the thread of the investigation.

Where can I watch these miniseries?

Service catalogs change constantly, so we don’t say where each series is streaming. For which streaming services work in Ukraine, see a separate article, and check whether a particular title is available on the service’s own page.
