Grey's Anatomy is a medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes that has aired on ABC since March 2005. It follows the surgical interns, residents and attending surgeons of Seattle Grace Hospital in Seattle, Washington. The story begins as Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) enters a surgical internship alongside Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) and others, while neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) becomes her love interest. The show balances the doctors' demanding work with their private lives and has been renewed every year for two decades.

The doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital deal with life-or-death consequences on a daily basis — it's in one another that they find comfort, friendship and, at times, more than friendship. Together they're discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.
