In the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, high-school student Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and her friends become the targets of a killer in a costume on the anniversary of her mother's murder. Wes Craven directed Kevin Williamson's script, which was developed under the title Scary Movie and made fun of the clichés of slasher horror. David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Matthew Lillard also star. It began the Scream series.
